About Our Fabrics (a carefully curated mix)

By on July 9th, 2018

At Bespoke Edge, we have earned a reputation of providing a luxury experience by focusing on what’s important. With this article, we want to t about our fabrics and give you an introduction to our most prestigious cloth. The cloth providers described below are all storied companies with decades of history. They have provided custom clothiers with the tools needed to create the most impressive garments in the world.

It’s also worth noting that as a custom clothier, we are solicited by cloth providers regularly. What makes it onto our shelf needs to be (1) a high performing cloth and (2) be a style that we personally like. For instance, even our solid colors have either a subtle textural weave to them. Or have such an incredible drape, that they stand apart from the crowd. This thoughtful approach to curating our library of fabrics is an important tenet of our business.

Holland & Sherry

Established in 1836, Holland & Sherry has built a venerable reputation on its quality and careful manufacture of cloths.

The company was first founded by Stephen Holland and Frederick Sherry when they began their business as woolen merchants at 10 Old Bond Street in London. By the turn of the 20th century, a sales office had been opened in New York. Subsequent decades saw growth in countries around the world and by 1982 the business moved its head office to Savile Row. Of all the cloth merchants established in the late 1800’s in Golden Square, what was once the epicenter of the woolen trade in London, only Holland & Sherry remains today.

While our H&S books lean towards the more conservative, our fall and winter-weight swatch books are pretty incredible. The blend of texture and color makes for an excellent cold weather sportcoat. Super 150s and 180s are excellent choices for business or weddings. Whereas, options like pure cashmere and even pure worsted vicuña are top of the line.

Also noteworthy, are the handful of cloth in forest green hues. They are lightweight and make for an excellent 4-season suit, but still have a nice textural component.

Gladson

Gladson is Ryan’s personal favorite cloth house. It has been sourcing fine cloths to the world’s leading custom shops for over fifty years. The company began as Gladson of England in 1948 and was founded by a man named Benjamin Solomon. At the time, he had been selling English fabrics to wholesale manufacturers on 4th Avenue in Manhattan. The company started to make a name for itself by selling English mohair suits as they became popular in the 1950’s and 1960’s.

Today, aside from providing an excellent selection of English wool, the company carries an impressive line of Italian silk fabrics. If you’re looking for a fun spring or summer sportcoat, but with a refined finish, a Gladson swatch book is probably the one for you.

Drago and Rosenthal

Our Rosenthal books comprise our opening range of fabrics, retailing at $1,275. And our Drago book is a step above ($1,595) where you can find some excellent Super 130s. Both feature a wide selection of solid and patterned suit and sportcoat cloth. Either of these books are great starting points for your first custom suit.

Scabal

And then there’s Scabal, our finest cloth. Scabal is a prestigious cloth house with some of the softest and most complex weaves available anywhere. For suit cloth softer than your pajamas (seriously!) or a tuxedo cloth that would make a movie star envious, these are the swatch books to look at.

Animal-free fabrics

We also curate a rotating stock of animal-free fabrics. Cloth made from bamboo and cotton each have their pros and cons, but can be great substitutes for traditional animal-derived cloth such as wool and silk.
